Convert Text to Base64 and Back

Paste text to get a Base64 string, or paste Base64 to recover the original. Accents, emoji and CJK text survive the round trip.

About this tool

Base64 packs bytes into ordinary characters so binary payloads can travel through text-only channels: inline images in CSS, attachments in email, binary fields in JSON.

Put your text in the left box for an encoded string, or paste an encoded value on the right to read it again. UTF-8 is handled, so accented names, emoji and Chinese characters come back exactly as they went in.

  • Plain text to Base64, Base64 to plain text
  • Correct handling of multi-byte characters
  • Copy the output without leaving the page

Frequently asked questions

Why does some Base64 output end with = signs?
Those padding characters keep the encoded length a multiple of four. They are part of the encoding and are required when decoding.
Can I decode a Base64 block copied from an email or API response?
Yes. Paste it into the decode box as-is, including any line breaks, and the original text is restored.
Is anything sent over the network while converting?
No. The conversion is performed by JavaScript in the page, so the data you paste never leaves the tab.
